Getting the Tyre Changed

After removing the rear wheel (see previous blog for Video) I tried to work out how to change the tyre/innertube. Not being the most mechanically minded I couldn’t see how to get the tyre of the wheel.

At this point I thought it would be best to have a professional do it rather than risk me buggering up my wheel and needing me to get the wheel replaced.

In a village local to me there is a motorbike shop so I decided to go there to see if they had any innertubes in stock. On the drive there I remembered that they are actually a Honda Motorcycle dealers and so should have the exact part I need.

I go inside and see if they can help. The guy checks the smallest of stock cupboards and although they don’t have the tube in stock, he can order it in and it will be there Wednesday.

The cost? £8.

Someone on VZi ordered 2 innertubes from eBay and paid £16 delivered so I don’t think that is a bad price.

After leaving my details I asked how easy it was to actually change the innertube. A reply came from the bloke the other side of the shop, “It takes me no time what-so-ever”. I felt this was the chance for me to push my luck…”Do you think you could do mine for me”, “Sure, no problem” came his reply.

So I left the wheel with them and they will call me when it is done. I feel like I have achieved something today. Maybe its not as great as having my bike back on the road but I’m halfway there and I did what I considered the hard bit (Actually getting the rear wheel off) all by myself.

Blood, Sweat and Tears*…..How to Remove The Real Wheel from a Honda Camino

So Saturday Morning is now here and I set to work.

I thought I would make a video of me removing the wheel using my trusty iPhone4 which sounds cool but is much harder to do in real life.

Don’t worry, I’m healing quickly – Like a Ninja!

Today is Rear Wheel off Day!

My personal toolkit comprises of 5 Ratchet Spanners. So I’ve borrowed my mum’s toolkit (which I don’t believe has ever been used and I have to take the rear wheel off the MIGHTY HONDA CAMINO!

The clouds don’t look too friendly, I hope it goes without a hitch.

Catch you on the flipside.

Ready To Start

Busy Weekend Ahead

I’ve got to get the rear wheel off my moped this weekend. Using my mum’s trusty tool kit (its pink!), I’m hoping I don’t need a 12mm spanner as it jumps from 11mm to 13mm. I used to have lovely set of pivoting ratchet spanners which cost me a lot of money, but they are long gone.

I’m going to try to film the whole thing on my iPhone so at least it should help me to re-fit the wheel when  the new tyre/inner tube fitted.

This will be the first mechanical thing I have attempted myself since the front beam swap on my ’72 VW Beetle. And that was about 10 years ago.

I just hope the rain stays away.
